American Eagle Type 2 gold coins
For the first time since 1986, the American Eagle coin has been given a new look. After almost 30 years of waiting, the well-known Bald Eagle, which appeared in its entirety on the gold and silver coins, has been changed. The newly designed American Eagle coins have been available since July 2021. Because the currency introduction did not come until mid-2021, the U.S. Mint produced a limited edition of the 2021 American Eagle gold type 1 and 2 coin. This in combination with the coin's popularity makes it a sought-after collector's item.

American Eagle Gold Coin Type 2 (since 2021)
The new design was created in honor of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle coin series. The design for the American Eagle gold coin was chosen by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin from a total of thirty nine designs filed with the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC).
The new design for the gold American Eagle coin was created by Jennie Norris and shows the Bald Eagle head up close. The coin is praised for the detail of the feathers, beak and eyes. Jennie Norris was able to perfectly express her knowledge as a bird of prey specialist / caretaker in her design. She uses the full space of the coin to purely show the detail of the head. You can see every single feather of the bird and the intense gaze that stares into the distance makes it a great unique design. Above the head of the Bald Eagle is the inscription “E Pluribus Unum” and “in God we trust” written horizontally. The outer circle of the Bald Eagle is surrounded by “United States of America” surrounded by 3 stars on either side. The bottom shows the face value in dollars and the weight in troy ounces of fine gold.
The design on the obverse remains unchanged for the 2021 American Eagle gold coins. The historic design shows a Lady Liberty with wavy hair, a burning torch and an oak branch in her hands. Lady Liberty was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and dates from 1907.
The US Mint has released a limited edition of 20,000 gold American Eagles of each design, type 1 and type 2. The limited edition ensures that the demand for the Brilliant Uncirculated 2021 American Eagle coins is high.
