American Eagle Type 2 silver coins
For the first time since 1986, the American Eagle coin has been given a new look. After almost 30 years of waiting, the well-known Bald Eagle, which appeared in its entirety on the gold and silver coins, has been changed. The newly designed American Eagle coins have been available since July 2021. Because the currency introduction did not come until mid-2021, the U.S. Mint produced a limited edition of the 2021 American Eagle silver coin Type 2. This in combination with the popularity of the coin makes it a sought-after collector's item.

American Eagle Silver Coin Type 2 (since 2021)
The new design of the American Eagle silver coin was done by Emily Damstra. Emily Damstra has long been known to coin collectors as a coin designer. She has already been allowed to design more than 40 coins. And she also shows her love for nature with the silver American Eagle. The silver American Eagle changes substantially in its new design. It gets a dynamic design that shows a Bald Eagle in action. The bird is portrayed while trying to place it somewhere on an oak branch. With its wings spread wide and its claws gripping the oak branch, you can instantly imagine seeing a Bald Eagle landing like this. The detail of its feathers in its wings and the deepening that has been made in the design makes it a joy to look at the design. The outer circle shows the words “United States of America”. The face value is shown in dollars and the weight is shown in troy ounces of fine silver. Of course, the famous phrase "all for one" should not be missed on the much-loved eagle coin, showing this below the right wing of the Bald Eagle with the words "E Pluribus Unum".
The new design was created in honor of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle coin series. The design for the American Eagle gold coin was chosen by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin from a total of thirty nine designs filed with the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC). Both committees gave different advice to the Treasury Secretary about which design they thought was best. Ultimately, Emily Damstra's design was chosen as the winning design for the American Eagle 1 dollar coin.
The obverse of the coin still features Adolph A. Weinman's classic depiction of a Lady Liberty walking. The design was first seen on a coin in 1916, disappeared for a number of years after 1947, only to reappear on the first one dollar coins in 1986. Furthermore, the U.S. Mint has an additional security feature applied to the silver one dollar coins. It consists of an anti-counterfeiting measure that creates small gaps in the reed edge of the coin.
Because there are two designs of the silver American Eagle coins in 2021, the U.S. Mint exceptionally Type 1 and Type 2 to the denominations of the coins assigned. Both coin types were produced in limited edition before 2021 and are therefore also a sought-after collector's item.
